“Goodbye? Oh no, please. Can’t we just go back to page one and start all over again?” ~A.A. Milne

Two months today and we’ll be celebrating your two year birthday sweet Mattheus! I can’t help but want to experience your first two years all over again, go back to the beginning. Yep, even those sleepless nights! Your smily, giggly, snuggly self has brought so much joy to our family.  Continue reading ““Goodbye? Oh no, please. First Lost Tooth

Joshua got his first visit from the tooth fairy last night after watching all his other friends loose their first teeth for what seemed like FOREVER! It also happened to be the night before his birthday party which he thought was amazing timing!

Of course he was wide awake for hours, waiting on the tooth fairy, which meant the tooth fairy had to be very patient ;-) Made me wonder why we don’t leave out cookies and sherry (I mean a glass of milk!) for her, too? Perhaps time for a new family tradition!

5 Ways The Faceless Portrait Can Nurture A Deeper Connection With Your Child

5-ways-the-faceless-portrait-can-nurture-a-deeper-connection-with-your-child-blog-feature.png

We often think of a portrait as focusing in on the face, the eyes in particular. Yet, as an artistic representation of a person, a portrait can be much more.

What I didn’t realize until recently was the surprising connection to my children that intentionally capturing a faceless portrait could stir in me, particularly in the early years.

4 Unique Ways To Use Shadow To Photograph Your Kids

4-unique-ways-to-use-shadow-around-your-house

Often times when we think about indoor portrait photography, we think about how to use light. We’re taught to find evenly lit areas and avoid patchy light, which can be unflattering. Like many photographers, I have sought out this soft, even light for the majority of my portrait work, avoiding the harsh and direct light which cause such contrast.

But, what if this ideal light isn’t readily available, especially around the house? Does it mean we call it defeat or wait till the weather cooperates and shoot only outdoors? Continue reading “4 Unique Ways To Use Shadow To Photograph Your Kids”

Beach By the Lake

Beach On The Lake-10

It really shouldn’t amaze me that when we are outdoors and in the nature, I rarely find myself telling them ‘No!’ (‘No, keep your hands to yourself!’ ‘No, you can’t climb that!’ ‘No, stop hitting your brother’s bum!’)

Being outdoors stirs the imagination, brings out the adventurer and gives the space to get mucky, isn’t this the essence of childhood? These are my favorite moments to photograph…no need for direction, cues or any kind of posing!

Here’s a snippet of our littles (and bigs!) on the beach at the lake in Arkansas.

Capturing The First Year

Capturing The first Year {Three Months}

three-month-baby-portraits-header

Oh three months, where have you gone?!

What seems like over-night, my tiny nugget has doubled his weight and somehow it happened right in front of my eyes! Perhaps a little sad to say goodbye to any resemblance of a newborn, this is a stage that in fact I have been looking forward to after having enjoyed watching our older sons grow. By three months, so much of their personality shines through. Quirky smiles, gurgles and hands-in-mouth mark this milestone! Continue reading “Capturing The first Year {Three Months}”
