A shorter post, but one that speaks true to my heart as we approach Mothering Sunday.
Are you engaged? Are you paying attention? If so, plan to make lots of mistakes and bad decisions. Imperfect parenting moments turn into gifts as our children watch us try to figure out what went wrong and how we can do better next time.
~ Brené Brown, Daring Greatly
A dear friend of mine recently sent me this passage out of a book she was reading following a conversation we shared about parenting and how daunting it can be bringing up these little beings, especially as they get closer to double digits! Hear me out, I do not believe I am the world’s worst mother (for the most part!) however, far too often I find that I judge myself as a bad parent for making a bad decision.
This passage definitely breathes fresh life into my mothering and the next time I find myself questioning my abilities I need to stop and simply ask;
‘Am I engaged? Am I present?’
Perhaps, the more engaged we become, the less we will discredit seemingly small moments, helping us to celebrate everyday moments and mini triumphs, celebrating motherhood in all its messiness and imperfection ~ the art of motherhood!
